MUMBAI: The Bhau Daji Lad Museum was inaugurated on Friday by Shiv Sena
executive president Uddhav Thackeray and BJP leader Gopinath Munde.
However, while the two leaders were busy watching the precious exhibits
inside the museum, the real drama unfolded outside before the inauguration.
Workers of the Shiv Sena and the BJP almost got into a scuffle with NCP
supporters who were holding a silent protest outside against the
handover of the museum to the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural
Heritage (Intach).
The objection was raised by NCP corporator Mangesh Bansode who had
informed mayor Shubha Raul and municipal commissioner Jairaj Phatak
about the silent protest that the NCP had planned to hold on Friday.
“We were protesting against the fact that all assets worth crores of
rupees have been handed over to the trust whose investment in the museum
is significantly lower when compared to that of the BMC,” Bansode said.
“The trust has invested Rs2crore while Rs8crore have been invested by
the BMC,” he added.
