Demand for their services hits five-year low as developers pull back
For most of the past four years, developers have crammed JDavis
Architects' pipeline with projects up and down the East Coast.
Billings have climbed steadily, along with confidence that invoices
would be paid on time.
Things were so smooth that Jeffrey T. Davis, the firm's president, was
able to focus on his calling -- designing condominiums, restaurants,
office buildings and planned communities -- without having to sweat the
business side.
These days, however, it seems Davis is acting more like a bill collector
than an architect.
