Dear Friends,
Today it being the holy festival of Id and hence a government holiday, there
wasn't much traffic on the bridge (NH 24). Still as you can see from the
enclosed report the 'collection' has still been substantial.
Today we also began to try and understand the socio-economy of the bridge in
a systematic manner. There are people who use the space underneath the
bridge as a living quarter. Then there are people living in hutments close
to the bridge in the flood plains, whose kids loiter the whole day in and
around the bridge. Most of them are school drop outs and yet not averse to
joining an school provided their parents permit them and if it is not too
far away. Many a times passersby (in car, scooter or cycle) use these kids
to do their dirty job of putting things in the river.
As the vigil has progressed over the days, these kids have gravitated
towards the volunteers and started to assist them. We hope to share more on
these kids in due course on this list.
