Union Territory initiates step for better civic
services
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Union Territory
administration has initiated action on various
projects for planned development of urban areas with
focus on efficiency in urban services delivery system.
With less than one million population as per 2001
census, the city had been included for assistance
under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal
Mission (JNNURM) which aims to develop basic services
for urban poor, like improved housing, water supply
and sanitation.
The Chandigarh administration prepared projects
eligible for assistance under the Mission and sent a
team of officials from Municipal Corporation and
Housing Board to Pune to attend a training programme
in this connection.
The Municipal Corporation has prepared a project on
territory water treatment seeking assistance of Rs 35
crore and sent it to the Union government... likely to
be sent to Centre in the next fortnight.
