New GATS alert in services trade round



UNI unions have been put on a new alert following the decision of trade
ministers in Hong Kong last month to "intensify the negotiations" on world
trade in services.....

......They are being urged to approach their governments for discussions on
what, if any, requests are to be made on trade in services - and time is
short.
New deadlines have emerged from Hong Kong:
- February 28 for presenting plurilateral requests for the opening up of
services to world trade,
- July 31 for a new round of offers to open up in the services negotiations,
- October 31 for final offers.
