Centre plans to curb DDA, boost pvt sector

NEW DELHI: The unrelenting pressure of the judiciary on Delhi's political
and civic authorities may finally be paying off. The Centre is working on a
policy which offers hope that some of the ills dogging the city's urban
planning — government monopolies and rampant encroachment — will be a thing
of the past.

The crucial aspect of the urban development ministry's new approach is to
severely restrict DDA's role in land acquisition and construction, and, on
the other hand, encourage public-private partnerships.

Along with this, there could be increases in permissible floor area ratio
(FAR) with compound fees in select areas.

The ministry hopes to work on this plan of action during the one-year
moratorium on sealings and demolitions the Centre is proposing to bring
about through legislation when Parliament reconvenes on May 10.
