Tourism dept plans sea change for Yamuna riverfront: It has been long
overdue, but Delhiites may finally get a beautiful riverfront that they
can look forward to visiting, if all goes as per plan. Even as the Delhi
Government is scheduled to start construction on the ambitious signature
bridge at Wazirabad in another three months, the Delhi Tourism &
Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) is giving the finishing
touches to a plan to develop the adjoining area as a tourist destination.
As per the proposal, the barren Yamuna riverbed will have a lake
surrounded by nature parks, multi-level meandering pathways,
amphitheatres, a water park and an ethnic Tibetan market. The Delhi
Government plans to fund the beautification project, estimated to cost Rs
203 crore, through the grants that it gets for the Commonwealth Games.
