*Pune, August 25:* The civic body on Friday ratified the projects under the
Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, albeit after recommending a
few changes, at a special General Body meeting of the Pune Municipal
Corporation.

The General Body suggested an increase in the allocation for slum
improvement projects from Rs 700 crore to Rs 1,900 crore and increasing
tenure of the project from seven years to 10 years. The General Body also
recommended allocating Rs 200 crore for restoration of old wadas in the
city.

The GB was held after the corporators had demanded a discussion on the
various aspects of the JNNURM programme. During the discussion, Leader of
the House Ramesh Bagve, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Anil Shirole,
Nationalist Congress Party leader Rajlaxmi Bhosale and Shiv Sena leader
Ramesh Bodake forwarded a suggestion that the original slum improvement
project of Rs 700 crore should be increased to Rs 1,900 crore and the time
of implementing the project too be increased from seven years to 10 years.

The ratified project would also include improvement in traffic and
transport, roads, water and education for children in slums amongst other
amenities.

Corporators Suhas Kulkarni and Vikas Mathkari forwarded the suggestion that
under the head of development of old villages, Rs 200 crore should be
allocated for restoration of old wadas.
