No commercial activity in basements
Aanchal Bansal
... Following the MCD's move to declare around 2,000
roads for commercial use, the Cabinet resolved on
Monday to send a "special note" to Union Urban
Development Minister Jaipal Reddy requesting further
relaxation in rules for commercial activity in
residential areas. The main being relaxation for use
of basements by professionals other than allowing auto
repair shops, and liquor vends to operate from
residential areas.
While the MCD Commissioner did not comment on the
issue, a senior MCD official said, "As of now, there
have been no changes in the laws for use of basements
and so, any sort of commercial activity in basements
will be treated as illegal and is liable for sealing."
